I think Corey over thinks sometimes. I still think he's a good coach for the Merc, but this year was not a normal year. He wasn't able to just not call plays b/c of the new players. Last year if things weren't going good, he would let them play freely. That wasn't an option this year. I do think his substitutions and play calling were suspect. Such as in game 1 against Seattle, he had them feeding Kara in the post. She had a few turnovers and missed a few shots.&n
Cappie was already emotional returning to Phoenix to get her ring and plus she didn't know how the crowd would respond. I think her emotions were a little too high. I believe she intentionally fouled Penny that hard. It would have been nice if she would have seen if Penny was okay, but that's not expected b/c a lot of players don't do it. Well it's just not all on the coach, I mean, the Merc had to get used to new players coming in (CanDu and Braxton), they had to build chemistry with them, and this team is just different from last years. It's difficult to repeat. But yea, I did feel like the Merc was lacking some of that motivation/energy that they had last year. Well, here it is, the end of another WNBA season - for the Merc any way. It seems so early when you look back on last year. Just some reflections I have. First, I can't thank Cappie enough for wanting out of Phoenix. By doing so, she brought my absolute favorite player to the Mercury - C. Dupree of course. I know the team struggled a bit to find their identity, and I really think that the Merc had a Championship hang over common to many champions. That and trying to find chemistry is a tall order even for such great players. Dee came in with a broken hand, and clearly tired from the "off" season overseas. All of that, I believe led to a roller coaster of a season! I still enjoyed it all...It may not have ended exactly the way we'd have liked, but, considering what a tough year it was the Merc did very well just getting to the WCF's. Yep, that was a heart-breaker of a game yesterday, but I really felt that the Mercury did the best they could against a team that believes it's destiny is to win a championship this year. Just as we were unstoppable last year, it seems Seattle isthis year. However, I feel that the Dream are firmly on that same path..should be interesting, unless of course NY does something tomorrow. I think another reason I enjoyed this season so much was that I was lucky enough to interact with several players this year. It was nice to talk to, take pictures with, and just say 'hi'. I love how accessible these professional athletes are, it brings another dimension to being a fan. I have attended every season since the very first in Los Angeles. I absolutely love the WNBA. I hope this 'off season' is fun and safe for all of the players, and they come back ready to go in 2011! It will be great for the team now that they know each other, and the core group is coming back! Can't WAIT!
is it just me? am i the only one that thinks corey gaines should stop coaching the mercury- .. i mean honestly.. he never calls timouts at the right times.. when we are doing good and catching up, he either switches the lineup or changes the offense to rover if we are in man.. it doesnt make sense.. ya i kno we won a championship with him last year- but this year hes changed.. i think last year he was more easy going and letting the players go with the flow- now hes changing paul westheads system----i mi
Bun hair salon--LOL! Dee has something a lot of players don't have, and that's loyalty. I can't see her with any other team besides Phoenix. That was Swin you saw on the charge. She was still slightly moving over into position when Dee was in the air. I can't wait for Sunday! Some of players may want to start wearing mouth pieces and knee pads:)

Our bench did play awesome! Lilley is becoming one of my new favorites, that three point shot with a few seconds left was clutch; girl has potential. I love how our starters were doing the freethrow leg routine from the bench haha, they were a little out of sync at first, but now they have it down haha. Yes, this was another great game. We all knew it was a matter of time for them to get back to playing like last year. I look back on some of those games they lost early on and know they would have won most of them if they were playing like now. But it takes time to learn the system and I'm so proud of all of them.
So they are going to auction off the "top 6 players" uniforms after sundays game. I think they should auction them all off as I believe we have enough fans of all the ladies that they would all sell. I read a bit online, and it sounds like this is nothing new, rather a story that grew out of a statement that DT made back in late May/early June. I agree, she had played so hard from day one. She does need some time to rest and recuperate. she takes some really hard hits. I can live with the season starting in June if it means players can get some off time. They do deserve it, they play really hard.
I also agree that even if she does take the season off the team will be okay. Will miss her like crazy but if she feels the need then she has to do what is best for her.
I think she mentioned that she was thinking of taking off the next WNBA season to give herself a rest, a few weeks ago. From what I heard, she said it was just something she was thinking about. Now, of course it's been widely reported. Donna Orendar commented that the league is aware that players are playing year round, and that they have been aware of this from the begininng..and as such were considering a later start to the WNBA season next year to give the players a break. I think trading Ohlde for Braxton was a good move...I don't know about trading our first round pick tho. But when I think about it, where are we the weakest? It's defending players like LJ or Candace, we need a big girl in there to be physical and aggressive with them. Candice and Tan have difficulty defending against the bigger player

I'm particularly impressed with Dupree, nice rebounding and nice shots; I think she only missed two shots the whole game. She deserves to be on that team. I agree, amarefan. There is probably a huge story that we don't know about. I admire Penny and Dee's post game reactions. They are handling themselves with class without saying anything negative against Cappie. To me, this shows which players have better character. I had forgotten the fan event situation with Cappie. At the time, I chalked that up to Cappie just being young and new. Now, I'm definitely thinking differently. What a gutless coward.
