I'm not going to tell you you're wrong because everyone sees things differently. What I do agree with is that he does seem to change the line up when things are going good, and it seems to break up the flow of things. Don't get me wrong I like Corey as the coach of the Mercury, but I think with the up and down season we had, he had a hard time getting motivated. As a coach though he should be positive at all times. When the coach is not having fun it begins to trickle down to the players.
I don't know who #45 was, but I know in the 3rd quarter they were in the bonus about 3 mins in. Phoenix was on a roll and when you keep calling all of these touch fouls, it slows down the game and gets the Mercury away from what they like to do and thats run. Yes officials are human, but if you call a foul on one end you have to call it on the other. For example the clear path foul they called on DB, Sue did the same thing when ( I want to say Penny) was running down the court for a layup. Things like th
Jess... I was trying to figure that out myself. I noticed the announcers didn't even mention anything about it. Maybe that affected her shot more than we know. I'm already looking forward to next season. Our core group should be back and they can get into training camp and gel from the beginning. I see Braxton being in "Phoenix Mercury" shape and she'll be able to stay in games longer.
Alright Mercury fans! The regular season has ended and now it's time for the playoffs to begin. We all know that the Mercury seem to play their BEST basketball in the post season. The bench played well these last two games(even though we didn't win) to give our starters some much needed rest. Now when the starters need a breather, we know they can come in and contribute. I'm so excited about the playoffs, I wish the games started tomorrow. Well I hope everyone that's a Mercury fan and lives in Phoenix at
I think she mentioned that she was thinking of taking off the next WNBA season to give herself a rest, a few weeks ago. From what I heard, she said it was just something she was thinking about. Now, of course it's been widely reported. Donna Orendar commented that the league is aware that players are playing year round, and that they have been aware of this from the begininng..and as such were considering a later start to the WNBA season next year to give the players a break. I haven't heard anything def
Lucky for all of you who live in Phoenix and get to attend the games. I wouldn't miss one either. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to this one in Atlanta. I would absolutely love to meet Dee and the crew one day!
Khawk62, I'm with you there. Even though the Mercury seem to have a few undesireable loses, they are still in transition emotionally, spiritually, and physically with the loss of players. There are probably a lot of other issues in the locker room, too. At any rate, I'm not giving up on this team and will be rooting for them whether I can make a game or not. I haven't given up on the Mercury since they started and don't plan on doing it now.
The Mercury are still finding out who they are as a team. Penny is back full time, LeCoe is gone, CP gone...Dupree added, as well as some very talented rookies and healthy Ohlde..very different than last year. They will be better than fine once everything falls into place. Some fans are too frustrated to see that this is a necessary step, to find their way, and that some times that means there will be a lack of rhythm and losses may be the result. We have to love and support them more than ever during th
As the Phoenix Mercury stuggle to find their groove this season it might be safe to say that their groove is gone! Game after game the Mercury try to find that missing link that can get them a win. Of course, being the WNBA defending champs they bring a bit of attitude to their game but who wouldnt? On the flip side, every other teams wants to beat you. The Mercury is the team to beat. And as we all know, they are beatable. So whats up? Why so different this season? Two words: Cappie Pondexter! Despite the reasons for her leaving wheather personal or professional those have to be put aside. We have to deal with the here and now. My question is this......Did the Mercury organization do enough to try to keep her? Even though CP might have WANTED to leave Phoenix, what was done to convince her otherwise. Tough to say but obviously not enough. Losing Cappie is tough to swallow only because she brought an extreme amount of energy to the court every single time. Not only to pump herself up but the rest of the players as well. She was explosive off the fast break and played with passion and emotion. I was able to attend a home game about a week ago and was so disappointed to see half of the lower level seating vacant. The people who did show up to watch the game were as loud as ever and cheered on the Mercury the entire night. As I sat and watched the game a thought occured to me many times, "what is so different this season"? "What is missing"? It didnt take long to realize what is was. Two words: Cappie Pondexter. Not to take anything away from the current Mercury team but its not very often when you get a person who can play the game and entertain as well. Thats what fans want to see. They want to see the player who show their emotions while playing, the player who can energize the bench and an entire arena. That little piece of energy, that little piece of emotion, that little piece of passion is what is missing from the Phoenix Mercury this season. That little piece made a difference. As the Mercury season continues the New York Liberty will be comming to town and I will bet that US AIrways Arena will be packed. I will bet that the energy in that place is gonna be roaring. I will bet that the fans came to see Cappie.
The Mercury will continue to press on and continue to strive to win. Afterall they are all competitors after one goal. Continue to support them as I continue to do.
If you dont think that one person can make a difference, think again.
I agree with everyone. I managed to catch the middle of the 3rd and the 4th Quarters and wasn't too disappointed although the result was not desireable. Many good things happened even though they were laced with the ugly and frustrating. Still, I'm not too worried. A good profesional athlete trainer friend of mine, who is currently in South Africa with the World Cup, pointed out that the players seem to be feeling out their way as a team and that it's times like the
Agreed, the Mercury can't rely on other teams losing...and I'm sure they aren't. They are always great at stepping up and taking responsibility. I can feel their frustration, but hopefully they can turn that into fuel to go out and get some road wins, then come home and take care of business here. They'll be just fine, and it'll be exciting to watch how the rest of the season unfold.
Yea, our losses haven't been by much: Loss to ATL by 3, LA by 1, SA by 3, CON by 2. Really the only big losses have been to SEA. Right now we're in a good position just because the rest of the teams have been losing. We're in 2nd, but any little shift in wins or losses can affect us. We can't rely on other teams' failure in order to get into the playoffs, the Merc need to make it happen. It's all on them.
Wow, these last 2 losses have been really tough! Not worried though, 3 of our losses have been by a total of 6 points! Those could have gone either way, so that's encouraging. Still know they will be in the playoffs and will do some damage! Go Merc!
Penny did play and it look like she was in any pain. If she was hurting she didn't show it. Neither did Bonner and I would imagine she's sore from that hard fall she took.
Just too bad we weren't able to pull through on this one. 2 losses in a row, ugh!
Looking forward to this one. It will be a UConn Huskies' reunion, 2 on the Merc and 3 on the Sun; should be fun to watch!
Hopefully Penny is okay and the team is not too beat up after last night's game. DB's fall made me cringe. Turnovers and missed shots/freethrows were the culprits for the loss. I still think that Candice should be getting more touches, she's doing great.
Once again, I will be there with bells on. Haven't missed a home game yet.
Hope all the ladies are doing/feeling good. That was one physical game against SASS. I still think some of the calls the refs made should have gone against SASS and not the Mercury, and they missed some (or pretended to miss) all tog
copy and paste from my facebook page Phoenix Mercury has an update on Penny Taylor. She suffered a sprain during the 3rd quarter of last night's game and is listed as day to day. Game time decision for tomorrow's match-up vs. Connecticut.
