I think Corey over thinks sometimes. I still think he's a good coach for the Merc, but this year was not a normal year. He wasn't able to just not call plays b/c of the new players. Last year if things weren't going good, he would let them play freely. That wasn't an option this year. I do think his substitutions and play calling were suspect. Such as in game 1 against Seattle, he had them feeding Kara in the post. She had a few turnovers and missed a few shots.&n

Well it's just not all on the coach, I mean, the Merc had to get used to new players coming in (CanDu and Braxton), they had to build chemistry with them, and this team is just different from last years. It's difficult to repeat. But yea, I did feel like the Merc was lacking some of that motivation/energy that they had last year. The last play with Meek was questionable, but I think Corey has done a pretty good job. He doesn't use timeouts very much because they disrupt the up and
I'm not going to tell you you're wrong because everyone sees things differently. What I do agree with is that he does seem to change the line up when things are going good, and it seems to break up the flow of things. Don't get me wrong I like Corey as the coach of the Mercury, but I think with the up and down season we had, he had a hard time getting motivated. As a coach though he should be positive at all times. When the coach is not having fun it begins to trickle down to the players.

OMG! LOL! I agree with you on those Seattle announcers. Just horrid. But I really couldn't mute the game b/c I wanted to hear what was going on. I enjoyed the game. Everybody was competitive. The U.S. is going to be a great team at the World's, and I expect them to win. Funny how Corey called Brian Agler to tell him to limit Penny's play. I kept wondering why she wasn't playing. I thought it was b/c of the scrimmage game tomorrow. But low and behold, she played almost the entire second half. Yeah, I saw that. Whatever! From reading Ceb Ceballos (sp?) tweets, it looks like they were all suppose to be having a party at the Merc bar. I wonder if that will still happen after this. Also Ben York retweeted what Corey said after the foul..."Now the truth comes out. Everyone can see." I wonder exactly what he means by that. Cappie never struck me as the jealous type, but she seems to be that way about Diana. Should be an interesting All Star Game next weeken
Just some thoughts about this season, and being a fan. This is a tough year so far for the Mercury, no doubt about it, but what better time to show our support? I've seen people on websites, facebook, and here, who claim to be fans, but do nothing but complain and criticize. I have heard the argument that this is part of being a fan..and a way to show how much they 'care', their passion, but I don't buy that. It seems to be more a sense of entitlement. Certainly, we have ample reason to have become spoiled by the great success of our team over the past few years, but let's remember that it is incredibly difficult to win consistently in a league that just gets better and more even each year.
These ladies give their all, their hearts and bodies to this game. I can't imagine what true fan would not see this. As for this tired issue of the big trade...can we please for once and all, let this go? It's been well documented that Cappie demanded a trade, and if she didn't get it, threatened to sit out the year (how would we be doing now with her sitting on the roster, and no Dupree?) the team tried to persuade her, Corey flew overseas to try and persuade her to stay, and you know her teammates did the same. The end result? She demnaded to be traded. The management did what they could, and ended up with a three time all-star, and one of the best players in the league. Yet, some fans are still whining about this, questioning the trade, and longing for the return of Cappie? Wow, leaves me speechless. Instead, how about dealing with the reality that this 2010 team is our team, and yes, it's a new look, a new twist on the system, and that takes time to adjust to by everyone involved. Add to this mix the ineveitible "Championship Hangover", the elevated play of the league in general, and it's no mystery why this is such a difficult start to the season.
Now is the time to stop the "arm chair quarterbacking" to borrow from my other sport, and start cheering louder, showing our love and support, and lifting this team up! I have always been impressed with the X-Factor, even when I used to visit here as a Sparks fan. The X-Factor, the Mercury fans are well known as some of the, if not THEE best fans in the WNBA. It's time to earn that rep back outside of the U.S. Airways Center, on the net. I for one will be a proud X-Factor member, as always, cheering loud and long, and coming to every game win or lose. I love this team, and it will not matter, in the end what the W/L columns look like. I will still love and support this team! Of course I believe they will turn it around and do some damage in the playoffs. I do have faith! Heal quickly DT, everyone hopes you are well and healthy! Go Mercury!
Maybe coache corey needs to tweek the starting lineup... buy benching some starters and starting some bench players... Right now i think this team needs confidence all around... especially the bench points.. we need to improve in that area and Tangela has to do more than what she is doing now.. She needs to be a presence downlow.. and the need to play DEFENSE... The other teams are doing to Mercury what they used to do to other teams... run them outta the building...
The Suns are up & Down right now, but I hope in the end we will go the distance to the playoffs.
As for the Merc. Its so fun to read tweets from @tgotnext, @cappa23 & @deebonner24! They sound like they are having a great time overseas. From what I have heard though, they are really looking forward to getting back to the AZ and getting the WNBA season started.
I am really excited that Corey Gaines has been signed for the 2010 season. I am a proud supporter of his style.
I heard a rumor that there will be a major cut to the coaching staff though. Not sure if it is true but supposedly, to same money there will be only one Assistant coach on WNBA teams.
I am not going to voice my opinion, but I think we all know that us fans will have a fit if a certain ex player does not remain on staff.
