Our bench did play awesome! Lilley is becoming one of my new favorites, that three point shot with a few seconds left was clutch; girl has potential. I love how our starters were doing the freethrow leg routine from the bench haha, they were a little out of sync at first, but now they have it down haha. I hope Dee comes out and shuts up all the critics and haters, so tired of people talking shit about her.
I think we're more than ready for the playoffs. The team is loo
Yes! That was a great game! I wonder if they will come back to Phoenix today or if they are going straight to Tulsa and hang out till Thursday. I'm looking for the season sweep against Tulsa. Now is the time for the Merc to rack up some wins.
I agree, that fake by Candice was awesome. She is now my second favorite player behind Dee. I really didn't know she was this good in Chicago. I just love everything about her and she has done a great job of learning t
Well, it's never fun to lose, and I'm sure the Mercury are as frustrated as they look, but, there were some great moments and extremely positive signs in both losses this past weekend. The San Antonio game was truly a toss up, that could have gone either way right down to the wire. Really a great game for the Mercury. It really showed how much they have gelled and trust each other. The system is working, and the wins will come. I still think the West is the toughest conference, all beating each other up. As far as the Connecticut game..well, that comeback from 21 down was amazing! It showed the mental toughness that will get the Mercury through. I for one am encouraged and still excited to experience the rest of this season! As for my girl CD4...WOW! I've always been impressed, but am extra impressed now that she has settled into this system, got her legs under her, and fitting in beautifully! I sure hope the voting went the way it should have, with many of our starters so deserving of All Star status! Go Mercury!
copy and paste from my facebook page Phoenix Mercury has an update on Penny Taylor. She suffered a sprain during the 3rd quarter of last night's game and is listed as day to day. Game time decision for tomorrow's match-up vs. Connecticut.
Wow! Sounds like quite a rough game. I saw some of it online in between website crashes and simply could not believe the amount of body crashes on this one. The Mercury definitely walked/limped away with more than one battle scar. My heart skipped a beat when Bonner came crashing into the floor. A lot of soft tissue injuries show up a day afterwards. It's an interesting feeling when you get injured and the crowd falls deadly silent. I really h
Agreed when Bonner hit the floor it echoed through out the arena, the crowd went silent and my own heart felt like it skipped a beat, it looked as though she wasnt able to get up at first. I didnt see what happed to Penny, dam ref was in the way, hope all is well and we see her play sunday. Penny is definatley one tough cookie, she had to have been in some serious pain dont think I have ever seen her about to burst out into tears on the court. Anyone know what happened to DT, she came out with a bandage
wow. That was one close hard-fought game from beginning to end. 106 pts for SASS was a franchise history high. You know the Mercury drove that score. I am proud of the Mercury for giving it their all even tho at the end they did not get the win.
Poor Penny went down with an ankle sprain. DeWanna Bonner hit the floor so hard I initially thought she knocked herself out. DT took a serious kick to the ankle that had her rubbing it and be a little gingerly with it for a bit
Rough night in Seattle for our Mercury ... They are at about the same win/lose record as last year for this time. And remember we won the championship after that rough start too!
They are for sure going to need some x-factor wub when they return home on Thursday 06/18 at 7pm against the San Antonio Silver Stars! Come on out and support our Basketball wenchs!
girl have you been using twitter too much? haha. Everytime I see this "@" I think twitter. I can't blame your friend because everytime I see Pat Summit I cringe (I was watching the finals btwn Phx and Indy, I think it was game 4, and there she was). Deep down inside I admire her for what she's done for women's basketball, very deep down inside lol.
Yea, I know some people didn't like that the Merc is being sponsored by Lifelock, but really it's a great move.&nb
Wendy... I thought the elbow was intentional, and maybe I'm saying that because I'm a Mercury fan. When January went up for that layup, she threw her arm backwards and there was no need for that. I think they were so frustrated with Penny scoring on them from all over the court, that she saw an opportunity to get her out of the game. I hope that injury lit a fire under the girls, and they come out ready and focused. I look at how they lost gm 1 in San Antonio and came back and played Mercury bball t
With a huge win over the Sparks, Phx. comes into this series fired up and ready to go. Given a few days to rest, the Mercury are allowed time to let their bodies recover and re-energize. Playing games 1 and 2 at home is of a BIG ADVANTAGE for Phx. who can go into game 3 in Indiana with 2 games under their belt and only 1 game away from becoming the 2009 WNBA CHAMPS!!
While Indiana is extremely excited to be in the championship series, they are probably thinking that if they can FINALLY beat Detroit, their is a chance they can beat Phx. Ummm No!! Here is why:
Phx. leads in pretty much every offensive category. They average 93 pts. per game!! They outscore their opponent by 7 or more points. They can shoot the 3pt. shot. And they are amazing at the line!! Indiana needs to remember that they are going up against the #1 team in the WNBA!! While Indiana averages only 75pts per game they out scores their opponent by only a mere 3 pts. Its not enough to get by Phx. Lets take a closer look at why the Phoenix Mercury will win this series in 3 games:
*Indiana is NOT a 3pt. shooting team. If Phx. can keep them outside the perimeter this will limit the Fever's options. However if Indiana drives the ball in, Phx. can end up in foul trouble. With the likes of Smith, Bonner and Taurasi going for those rebounds they need to BECAREFUL early in the game. Loose ball fouls, pushing fouls can become a problem for the Mercury. Phx. cannot allow Indiana to get to the line often as they are a pretty good free-throw shooting team. With Tameka Catchings going after every ball off the boards offensiveley and defensively it will be a battle down low. She dominates the boards and Bonner,Ohlde, and Smith are going to have to be ready.
*Phx. will have to dominate offensively off the boards. Rebounding resulting in second chance shots will give the Mercury a huge advantage and could shut this game out early!! They will however once again have to battle with Catchings, Sutton-Brown, and Hoffman.
*The Mercury 3pt. shooting can become a huge problem for Indiana. At any given time a number of Mercury players can become "HOT" making it difficult if not impossible for the Fever to catch up. Just ask the Sparks, they know all about it!! Indiana will have to stop the Mercurys 3pt. game if they even consider winning a game.
*Because Indiana does not shoot the 3pt. shot well, they tend to move the ball around the court alot. Good defense from Phx. will result in turnovers and steals allowing Phx. another opportunity to score some easy pts. Indiana will probably look into getting the ball down low into Catchings who will either draw the foul or score the pts. The Mercury need to stay awake down low and double team Catchings.
My final thoughts............How the hell Indiana got pass Detroit is still a mystery to me. Detroit I think is a better team than Indiana however Phx. is a better team than Detroit. Detroit Shock. More like Detroit SHOCK'D!! As far as our home team, the Mercury.........If any team had a chance to take them out of the playoffs I would say it would have been the San Antonio series. The Phoenix Mercury is a dominate team with weapons of all sorts to use . There is no other team that can call on its bench to perfom just like its starters do. They are consistant with one thing-------> WINNING!! They know how to win!! My opinion, this series will be over the first 3 games!!
I have to vent because that was a sorry ass game! The refs were totally bias, and didn't want to end Lisa Leslie's career just yet. The calls they made were awful, and the ones they didn't call was even worse. They were throwing elbows all night long, and they sat there like they didn't see it. I don't condone violence, but I wish one of our players would have knocked them on their asses. Well Cappie got Candace at the end of the game. I can't just blame the officiating because the Mercury missed a
I went and watched the game with my mom. I turned her into a Mercury fan 2 yrs ago ad she's been hooked every since. She loves DT and CP23! I thought I was the only one who noticed the fouls not being called in our favor, but I'm glad the ladies didn't let that bother them. How about the block shot from Dee against Betty Lennox? She thought she had open layup and Dee come out of no where and swatted it away. Yeah I saw Lisa Leslie all bent over needing an oxygen mask. I'm glad they came away with the win
I'm sooooo happy the Mercury stuck together and pulled this game out. I knew San Antonio was going to come out and play better than they did Saturday. In the 4th quarter, the Mercury hit the gas and that was all she wrote. I give credit to the Silver Stars for making it a difficult game, but the Mercury wanted it more. Good luck to Vickie Johnson in the future... she will missed in the WNBA!
Good luck to the Mercury in the Western Conference Finals! Can't wait to watch the girls play Mercury ball a
As I mentioned in my previous blog, this game was destined to get ugly. You could not rule out that the Silver Stars were not going to come out fighting and giving all they got. It was expected and they did. The first quarter of the game was messy. Both teams fighting to control the tempo of the game while turnovers and fouls were a handful. The crowd not to happy early on with the officials and the crowd let them know. This game was inten se from tip off and both teams though having turnovers and early fouls, kept the score within 2 to 3 points of each other. Was it about who wanted it more? It sure was. An even match for the first half of the game. At the half, the Mercury fans were a little bit stunned to say the least. But again, I didnt expect to see a repeat of Saturday nites game.
The good: Well the good thing is THE MERCURY WON!!
THE BAD: Beating LA is going to be just as tough as tonight. But it can be done and if there is a team that can do it, its the Mercury.
The Ugly: Lots of banged up bodies tonight. A very physical game which was expected. Tangela Smith looked a bit banged up and bruised in the 4th quarter. So it will be interesting to see how she is feeling tomorrow . Hopefully she is well.
Your Mercury players played a very physical game giving all they had to get the win. They need much rest so that they can come out with the same intensity and passion against the SParks.
I have to give credit to the San Antonio Silver Stars. Wow. What a game you gave us. What a series you gave us. Tonight fortunately for us Mercury fans, we came out on top. Good luck next season.
One last note......Sir Charles Barkley was in the house tonight cheering on the Mercury. No sure how to catagorize him. Under Good, Bad, or Ugly!!
It was great to see him there!! I will post pics and Video soon of tonights win!!
