They Deserve It

I moved to Arizona about two years ago. I hated it here. Seriously, I couldn't understand why God would make a plant like the cactus, whose only purpose (it seemed to me) was to prick you and get in your way. Why would a place exist that was so hot, so dry, and so boring? Then I went to a Mercury game. Arizona didn't change, but the way I looked at it did. Something out here was better than where I came from. Something positive existed here that could make me smile and cheer and be happy!

Throughout this 2009 season I have seen teamwork as I have never seen it before. Made shot or not (although with this team, it's usually a made shot) the team is giving high fives to each other, patting each other on the back, lifting up the energy and pushing the pace. The way they interact shows me that they want to win not only for themselves, but for the team. They want to be there for each other.

And now onto the Championship, what they have been striving for since the end of the season in 2007. They deserve it. They deserve to hold that trophy and breathe a sigh of relief because they made it. They deserve to be able to celebrate after a game because there is no more, "Well we have another game to prep for so we can't get too happy yet." They deserve to celebrate as a team what they as a team accomplished. They deserve to win, and I believe they will.

This team pulls through, and I truly believe that tomorrow night when they take the floor here at home, we will see Mercury basketball at its best. They will not back down, they will push the pace, and they will play Mercury basketball. I am more than excited to be able to watch this series, because it means watching this team, these players, these coaches.

I still don't understand why the cactus exists, but I can move past this, because I have found in Arizona something that you can't find anywhere else...the Phoenix Mercury. How cool is that?
