I was just wondering -- why isn't there a thing to see on the WNBA sites, or the Phoenix blogs, about the recent assassination of Shabtai von Kalmanovic, owner of Spartak Moscow? So many WNBA players will be affected by this in terms of cancelled games, reductions in compensation packages, and possible trades to other teams on the European continent. I'm thinking here of Diana Taurasi as well as erstwhile Mercury player Kelly (of Coco and Kelly twin fame). Aren't there heartfelt condolences to convey? Aren't there people who want to reach out? Mr. von Kalmanovic may have been an old-school misogynist in terms of sexualizing and sometimes infantalizing his professional women's players, but his heart was shown through his care-taking by using his pocketbook and his connections on behalf of his Spartak team. They lived as royalty, and rightly so. We should take care of our professional women's players so well here in the US! My heart goes out to all -- an era has passed!
